A. A CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Community) is a planned retirement community for older adults who want the security of knowing they will receive the care they need throughout the later years of their lives. CCRCs offer several housing options to choose from (Independent Living, Assisted Living, Long-Term Care), so you can select the lifestyle that fits your needs. You will also find a range of services, activities, amenities, and health and wellness programs — all geared toward helping residents stay healthy and independent for as long as possible. But the foremost advantage of living in a CCRC (especially at John Knox Village) is access to high-quality assisted living services and nursing care provided by a caring staff—at fees that are lower than current market rates. CCRCs offer specialized services, support, and security. Our residents derive great peace of mind from knowing that as their needs change, the appropriate level of support is available.
A. Our community includes:
- 1,400 Independent Living options including single-family homes, duplexes and apartments.
- Valley View has 119 apartments offering residents opportunity to receive assistance with their activities of daily living, three meals per day, housekeeping and individualized care with 24-hour nursing oversight.
- And the Village Care Center is a 430-bed skilled nursing facility providing a full-range of skilled and rehabilitation services as well as Alzheimer’s care, adult day services and skilled nursing.
A. Yes! John Knox Village is fully accredited by the CARF-CCAC(Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities – Continuing Care Accreditation Commission) through 2008. CARF-CCAC accreditation is widely regarded as the “seal of approval" for Continuing Care Retirement Communities. Out of 2,145 Continuing Care Retirement Communities, John Knox Village was one of only 342 in the nation to receive accreditation in 2003 and we are currently one of only four facilities in the metro area to be accredited. CARF-CCAC is a voluntary review process that examines these areas: governance and administration, financial resources and disclosure, and resident life, health and wellness. Accreditation by the CCAC means a community has voluntarily met or exceeded national standards of excellence in every aspect of its operation; it has a clearly defined mission that guides all of its work and the work of its staff; and it participates in an on-going process of self-evaluation in order to maintain its quality record.
A. In many ways, these living options are indistinguishable; however one way to help you determine is to discuss these questions with your family and/or health care providers:
- Are you calling someone more than twice per week for help with daily tasks?
- Are you confused about your medications?
- Are you afraid of being alone?
- Are you falling down?
- Are you afraid of falling?
- Do you need help with meals and meal planning?
- Do you need assistance with bathing?
- Do you need assistance with dressing?
- Do you need help walking?
- Do you feel like you are imposing on your caregiver's time?
A. At John Knox Village we offer a broad selection of additional services to assist our residents when their needs change. Our associates will work hard to understand what you need and help you maintain your independence for as long as possible. As your needs change, we will work closely with you, your physician, and family members to provide services and make accommodations, or—if necessary—to assist you in transitioning to a higher level of care. Our continuing care community includes Independent Living arrangements as well as Assisted Living, the Village Care Center, our Home Health agency, LifeStyle home care services, an Alzheimer’s program, adult day services and a Hospice program.

A. It means life without the hassles and the worries of maintaining a house. At John Knox Village, all exterior maintenance, interior maintenance, appliance maintenance and grounds keeping, grass cutting and leaf removal are provided as part of your monthly fee. The fees also include trash removal, expanded basic cable television, scheduled transportation, security personnel, the emergency call system and use of all community areas.
A. John Knox Village offers a variety of options for worship on campus. Chaplains of various denominations are available to residents and families seven days a week. In addition, church services for several denominations are held on campus, including a non-denominational service, and Baptist, Catholic and Episcopal services.
A. People of all ages move to retirement communities. The minimum age for John Knox Village is __ years – young enough to still be active, but old enough to appreciate living in a community designed for older adults. We always encourage people to move here while they are physically and mentally able to fully enjoy the active lifestyle available at the Village. Sometimes we see people who will only consider moving to a retirement community when they are "ready," and often that means that by the time they choose to come here we need to refer them to Assisted Living or nursing care. These residents never get to enjoy the active and vibrant atmosphere of independent retirement living. The choice is different for each individual, so take time to get all the information available and make the best choice for your today and tomorrow.
A. Many people ask about the costs associated with this lifestyle because they are not sure they can afford it—and they are frequently surprised at how affordable it can be. Our associates can help you compare the costs of your current home and activities with life at the Village. Keep in mind that many of your current costs will be eliminated or lowered when living in a full-service retirement community. Among these are property taxes, utilities, home maintenance, homeowner’s insurance, cable, food and transportation costs. In addition, many people find that they can get along nicely with just one car, instead of two.
A. Most people feel this way, especially if this is their first step in investigating this lifestyle. We absolutely know, through our years of experience, that pressure does not work. We wouldn’t even consider trying it! We believe that it is our job to educate people about retirement lifestyles, especially about John Knox Village, so that you can make your own decision about where you want to live.
A. John Knox Village offers a choice of contract options, so you're sure to find an arrangement that fits your specific desires, needs and budget. The Annual Agreement allows you to rent annually by paying an all-inclusive, once-a-month fee, and take advantage of all the services, amenities and activities that the Village offers. This affordable option lets you enjoy all the best things about our neighborhood, but does not provide any coverage for future health care benefits should the need arise.
The Entrance Fee Agreement requires a one-time entrance fee that guarantees you priority access to everything Village Health Services offers: home care, assisted living or skilled nursing care. Just like The Annual Agreement, you pay an all-inclusive, once-a-month fee. You can choose from a 0%, 50% or 100% refundability option. And, depending on how much coverage you want, the Village offers four different Agreements to fit your future needs perfectly.
A. Sure you are! After they move in, many of our residents tell us, "I wish I had done this sooner!" The best time to make these vital decisions about your future is now, while you're independent and healthy. Waiting until after you or your spouse's health declines only puts extra strain on you and your family. When you join us at John Knox Village, you not only benefit from our amazing array of activities and amenities, but you also have peace of mind knowing that you will be cared for, whatever your circumstances may become. Secure your tomorrows today!
